The Knoxville Chapter of the ACFE provides multiple training opportunities throughout the year to support the professional development of our members. Each January, we host our Annual Ethics Training, which offers 2 CPE credits. Additionally, we strive to organize Spring and Fall seminars, typically ranging from half-day (4 CPEs) to full-day (8 CPEs) sessions.

Event locations are announced with each training notice, with many sessions held in the conference room of Coulter & Justus. We encourage members to stay engaged and take advantage of these valuable learning opportunities.

    Program Summary

Thursday, May 15 – Fraud Detection Strategies

There is a management expectation that every fraud examiner and auditor possesses specialized skills to uncover fraud. Whether that expectation is realistic depends on the individual’s expertise, available detection tools, and organizational resources.

Part One of this program introduces a four-step fraud detection framework that can be applied across industries. Attendees will also learn how to educate management on detection capabilities and limitations while delivering measurable value in fraud risk management.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Apply a four-step fraud detection action roadmap to any audit or investigation
    • Adapt detection approaches to align with management or client expectations
    • Explore the three ‘Hey Boss!’ questions that every anti-fraud expert should ask
    • Learn to think like a thief when assessing fraud risks
    • Identify key fraud risks and red flags in your organization
    • Develop fraud detection steps tailored to organizational risks
    • Use Root Cause Analysis to move from red flags to underlying fraud causes
    • Discover three essential interview questions for fraud detection

Friday, May 16 – Case Studies & Fraud Prevention

Building on the fraud detection strategies from Part One, this session takes a deep dive into real-world fraud cases, focusing on fraud risks in procurement and contracting relationships—a common hotspot for financial misconduct.

The seminar concludes with six critical management actions to deter and prevent fraud, providing professionals with actionable steps to help leaders safeguard their organizations.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Analyze real fraud cases to understand how management missed red flags
